About 320 families in the quake-hit Koto Tinggi hamlet in East Lima Koto district
in the West Sumatra regency of Padang Pariaman
are facing starvation as the disaster has destroyed access roads to the area.
Local figure Abdul Azis Sutan Bandaharo said Tuesday that quake survivors
living in the hamlet had been running out of food and medicine since Sunday.
“People need immediate food and medical supplies as many of them are falling
sick. Relief has been delivered to our hamlet by foot, but it takes too long,”
he told kompas.com.
He said at least 13 people were still missing as the quake had triggered a
landslide on Wednesday, while two others, who were found dead, could not be
evacuated because there were no excavators.
