Amran leads Tangerang legislative council

The Tangerang legislative council unanimously approved the appointment of Amran Arifin as the council’s speaker in a plenary session held at the regency’s capital Tigaraksa on Tuesday.
 
Amran of the Democratic Party will lead the council for the next five years.
 
The plenary session also accepted the appointment of Golkar Party councilor Intan Nurul Himah, the daughter of Tangerang regent Ismet Iskandar, Barhum of the Indonesian Democratice Party for Struggle, and Syarifullah of the Prosperous Justice Party as deputy speakers.
 
Lukman Basjari, the council’s secretary, said Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiah endorsed the nomination of Amran and the other three politicians as leaders of the council on Oct. 2.
 
Chairman of the Democratic Party faction at the council, Haikal Sulaiman, said Amran was the right figure to lead the council, which he had proved during a recent examination.

“We hope Amran to facilitate council members in conducting their jobs, accommodate aspirations from the people of Tangerang regency and make sure the checks and balance mechanism works,” he said.
