Tap water supply to some 60,000 households and public service institutions across Tangerang city was disrupted due to a broken primary pipe on Tuesday.
Anda Sahanda, spokesman for the regional tap water company PDAM Tirta Kerta Raharja, said customers experienced water shortage due to the pipe damage, which took place on Monday evening. The pipe is located just 100 meters away from the company’s office.
“We are still looking into the causes of the damage and we apologize to customers for the inconvenience caused. Our team has moved to control the damage,” he said. Anda promised the repair work would be completed later on Tuesday.
Government offices and hospitals also felt the impact of the damage.
Company director Maryoso attributed the damage to the old connecting rubber of the pipe which had rotted.
The company has a total of 90,000 customers.
