The Attorney General's Office (AGO) on Wednesday questioned two Bank Indonesia officials over alleged corruption behind last year’s costly bailout of Bank Century.
AGO spokesman Didiek Darmanto said investigators had grilled the BI director for banking supervision, I Budi Armanto, and the BI team supervision director, Pahla Santosa.
“They were questioned as witnesses in the case,” Didiek told tempointeraktif.com.
Last November, the government declared Century a failed bank and injected Rp 6.76 trillion (US$ 676 million) into the troubled financial institution to keep it afloat.
Foreign nationals Hesham El Warraq and Rafat Ali Rizvi, believed to be responsible for the fraud that led to the bank’s decline, remain at large.
The AGO is scheduled to grill two more witnesses in the case, Wimboh Santosa and Hisbullah. (ewd)
