BOGOR: Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), Tadulako University in Palu, Central Sulawesi, and University of Georg-August G*ttingen in Germany signed an agreement for research aimed at enhancing the welfare of communities living on the edge of the Lore Lindu National Park in Central Sulawesi.

"One of the programs we will develop is to help improve the welfare of people around Lore Lindu National Park by promoting cacao cultivation without having to log the trees in the forests," Prof. Kurt von Figura, the president of the G*ttingen university, said Monday.

IPB's deputy rector Anas M. Fauzi said the stability of areas on the edge of forests had been identified as a key factor in tropical forest conservation. - JP
