The West Sumatra disaster management coordinating unit has discovered 1,000 landslide spots in Gunung Tigo highland located between Padang Pariaman and Agam regencies in West Sumatra as a result of the Sept. 30 earthquake.
Secretary of the unit, Ade Edward said Wednesday that six helicopters carrying food and medical supplies had been dispatched to the highland as the landslide had blocked many access roads to the area.
“Initial reports said there are more than 1,000 spots where landslides occurred which claimed lives. We are waiting for more details from the teams in the field,” Ade was quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
He added that four excavators were deployed to Patamuan district in Padang Pariaman regency on Tuesday to help evacuate dead bodies that were buried under the rubble and mud.
The death toll from the quake-triggered landslide in Patamuan district reached 60, followed by Limo Koto Timur with 54 and Malabak with 32.
