Issues: `Maria Ozawa fully clothed, anyone?'

Here they go again. Moralists and religious purists are out to shoot down Maxima Pictures' plan to fly in Maria "Miyabi" Ozawa, a Japanese adult movie actress to co-star in a local comedy flick about college students being obsessed with the 23-year-old babe. The threat of massive protests (which could turn ugly like the one when the Islamic Defenders Front, or FPI, attacked Playboy Indonesia in 2006) already puts the plan in doubt although Maxima production manager Adi Sudiadi promised to begin shooting this mid-October.

Your comments:
The only thing on Indonesian people's minds is that she looks like a Balinese-born presenter and actress, who appears in lots and lots of TV shows in Indonesia every day. I know who Ozawa Maria is, but did not know if people call her Miyabi in Japan. If a foreign actress wants to appear in an Indonesian movie that is very interesting, but hopefully she can act.

I am both sad and disappointed at the controversy surrounding Miyabi starring in a comedy series here. These are my thoughts and comments on this matter without any bias or prejudice.

First, just because she acted in porn films overseas, does this make her less of a human being than the so-called religious clerics, or any of us? Who are we to make judgments on a fellow human beings for what they do and how they make ends meet?

Isn't God the one and only who can judge any of us, regardless of our race or religion? Have any of the opposition spared a thought for her and the circumstances that made her become a porn actress in the first place? Instead of boycotting her, shouldn't they help steer her away from porn acting in the future?

Why are they wasting time and money protesting and shouting anti-Miyabi slogans instead of quietly thinking about how best to help her integrate into mainstream Indonesian society on the "right" path? For that matter, isn't acting in mainstream film in Indonesia a fresh start for her?

Is there no compassion and forgiveness in their religion and should any of us who has wronged before be branded "Once a thief, always a thief"? This matter has nothing to do with whether Indonesia is a Muslim country or not. I'm very, very sure all religions do not condone porn in any way or form.

However, I'm also very sure that not all religions and countries will neglect and boycott one of their own citizens just because they have acted in porn in the past.

So please, Indonesia, show the world that you are a compassionate and forgiving society by accepting one of your own back into your society.

It's better to all people watch what will happen if Miyabi comes to this country. I believe if our residents have strong faith it will not have a bad impact on people, especially children, Even though Miyabi is a porn actress. Don't exaggerate. There are many issues that are much more important to think about.

We cannot reject Ozawa's coming to Indonesia. She is just like other foreigners who have the right to visit any country, except if she has a legal/citizenship issue. But I think it is not a good idea to make her the main actress in the movie.

She is a symbol of adult porn. Why should we, as Indonesians, especially the producers, need her to be the main figure in the movie? Is she the only star capable of portraying the figure? Can any one else substitute her role?

What is the point of inviting her to play in this movie? By the way, what is the main idea of the movie? It seems the producer only hopes to utilize Ozawa's popularity and body to earn money at the expense of the morality of the Indonesian public.

It's ironic how we are distracted by this issue. Ozawa isn't intending to shoot a porn movie, but a comedy without any nude scenes.

Meanwhile, there is a lot of gravure and porn had been shot in Indonesia (most of it in Bali). But people have missed this fact. I guess the Ozawa case will give a lot of people popularity (especially for "vocal" people).

So typical Indonesia. Those moralists and religious purists are out once again showing nothing than there intolerance for other human beings, like a Japanese actress who has done porn movies as well. While at the same time a Muslim cleric with the name of Pujiono was acquitted by a Central District Court on Tuesday from charges of child sexual abuse and marrying an underage girl. Can you believe that?! Law in this country is not worth the ink it is written. I wonder why Indonesians do not speak up more loudly about this. A law is broken and ignored by a court. Sad, very sad! And to this moralists and religious purists let me say, it would be better to care about your own and let others live their life. If you don't like porn, don't watch it or buy it. But don't tell others what do do. This is democracy, if you not heard by now. Double Standard and Bigotry. Welcome to Indonesia.
This country has become so liberal... even the miniter of religion has no problem on Myibai's arrival. Let me remind you all that Miyabi a.k.a Maria Ozawa's name maybe now is much more familiar to mans'ear in the globe than our President SBY. We are againts pornography industry but we salute one of its idol or icon?
