The official death toll from the earthquake that rocked West Sumatra on Sept. 30 has reached 1,115, local authorities say.
The West Sumatra Disaster Management Coordinating Agency said Tuesday most of those killed were in Padang Pariaman regency, with 675 as of 8 p.m. The agency has recorded 313 deaths in the provincial capital Padang.
The 7.6-magnitude quake also severely injured 1,214 people and destroyed more than 135,000 homes and buildings.
The local government is cleaning up the rubble and expects to start reconstruction later in the month.
