CILACAP: About half of the 35 regencies and municipalities in Central Java have stolen social funds meant for disaster victims and low-income families, the province's Prosecutor's Office assistant for special crimes Uung Abdul Syakur said Tuesday. "We will take stern action against whoever committed graft, including regents and members of the legislative councils," Uung said in Cilacap, Central Java.
He announced that his office had declared 37 officials in 18 regencies and municipalities suspects in various graft cases this year. "The number is likely to increase since the investigations are not over yet," he added. - JP
