Denny prepares a tribute for ABBA

JAKARTA: Who doesn’t know ABBA? Although it broke up more than two decades ago, the Swedish group has stayed in the heart of many people, including that of actor and choreographer Denny Malik.

Working with composer Andi Rianto, Denny is currently preparing a tribute concert for ABBA titled Dancing Queen, which will be held at Jakarta’s Istora Senayan Stadium on Oct. 14, 2009.

“It’s going to be a unique and different music show,” says Denny of the concert that will feature famous Indonesian musicians such as Agnes Monica, Titi DJ, Mulan Jameela, Elfa’s Singers, Vidi Aldiano and Mike Mohede.

“I’m going to convert the stage into the most sensational discotheque in Jakarta,” he laughs.

According to Denny, 24 ABBA songs will be performed in the concert, which is also set to highlight the fashion scene in the 1970s.

“This concert will also bring back our memories of 1970s fashion,” says Denny, who is the concert’s art director. “As we know, 1970s fashion is currently booming at the moment. So this concert will be about the energetic and full color ‘pop art’.”

So the concert can put fashion center stage, Denny says he will also feature former models such as Eny Sukamto, Ega and Karmanita; the artists’ costumes are made by designer Lenny Agustine. — JP
