DENPASAR: Denpasar is seeking to be named the best and cleanest city in Southeast Asia.

The city is already the recipient of the national Adipura award for being one of best places to live in Indonesia and boasting low pollution levels.

Municipal environmental agency head A.A. Bagus Sudharsana said the city met the requirements for the ASEAN award.

The prerequisites include a proper waste management program, low air and noise pollution, and sanitation in public facilities such as offices, hospital, schools, residential areas, traditional markets and city streets.

Denpasar has also developed cultural and heritage centers, green areas and public parks for its 1.2 million residents. - JP
