Holmes here for UN disaster response

JAKARTA: United Nations Under-Secretary-General for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordination John Holmes will be in Indonesia from Oct. 14-15 to review the UN humanitarian response to the earthquake in West Sumatra, said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Indonesia in a press release.

"The UN is working to complement the assistance provided by the Indonesian government," OCHA said.

Holmes, from the United Kingdom, will meet with representatives of the government of Indonesia, ASEAN, UN agencies, nongovernmental organizations, donor countries, and the affected community.

On Oct. 14, he will travel to Padang, and the following day will hold a press conference in the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on the emergency response to the earthquake. - JP
