Holding two ministerial posts at the same time means more a bigger workload, says Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, who also acts as the coordinating minister for the economy, as she will end her term this week.
Mulyani has taken on the double role for the past one-and-a-half years, after then chief economics minister Boediono assumed the Bank Indonesia governorship.
“It's not an easy task to also hold an interim position ... but it worked well because I was assisted by telecommunications. I could just pick up the phone, or send a text message to my staff. That’s the most efficient way to solve problems,” she told reporters on Wednesday.
“What I have felt over the last five years is that there are so many challenges. In my relationship with the United Indonesia Cabinet, sometimes things have been tense, although we still feel family bonds, or like Pak Nuh said: 'Warm feelings that melt problems’,” Mulyani said, citing Information and Communications Minister Mohammad Nuh.
On Wednesday, economic ministers met at Mulyani's office to evaluate their performance over the past five years under the administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
Yudhoyono will take office for his second five-year term on Oct. 20, and announce the new Cabinet lineup the next day.
