PADANG: The search for 210 victims still buried under landslides in Padangpariaman regency after the 7.9-magnitude earthquake in West Sumatra has been called off, an official said Tuesday.
The regency spokesman Syofriyon said the families of the victims had been informed of the decision to end the search.
"The victims had been buried since Sept. 30. During a meeting at that time, we agreed to stop the search on Oct. 12," Sofriyon told The Jakarta Post.
He said 146 of the victims were believed buried in Tandikat village, Patamuan district while the remaining victims were buried in Padangsago, Kampung and Lima Koto districts. -JP
