Police arrest alleged illegal disc suppliers

JAKARTA: City Police arrested five businessmen suspected of distributing pirated CDs, VCDs and DVDs, containing, among other things, movies, adult movies, MP3-format songs and computer software.
City Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Chrysnanda Dwi Laksana said Wednesday the suspects, known only by their initials, TSS, MA, MS, SY and RP, had been arrested between Sept. 30 and Oct. 13 during an police operation targeting piracy.
The suspects were apprehended at several locations; Jl. Jelambar Fajar in Penjaringan and Jl. Ancol Selatan in North Jakarta; Jl. Latumenten 6, Jl. Pinangsia and Jl. Lada Dalam in West Jakarta; and Jl. Kemayoran Barat in Central Jakarta.
Police seized five copy machines, 64,800 DVDs and VCDs, 28 adult movie VCDs, 9,865 song and software VCDs and CDs, 3,200 printed covers, 3,400 recordable CDs and DVDs, 101 master discs of movies and songs and a L-300 minibus from the suspects.
The suspects were charged with violating the 1992 Film Copyright Law which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. - JP
