MAGELANG: A wild boar mauled an old woman to death in a village near the Mt. Potorono forest area in Magelang, Central Java, an official said Wednesday.

Kajoran district chief Bambang Prasetyo Hariyadi told Antara news agency the animal attacked Samini, 65, at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The woman was treated at the local community health center, but died from her wounds and was buried later that evening.

One of her grandsons, Salamun, said his grandmother had come across the boar as she was walking down the village road. The animal, which had stab wounds to several parts of its body, suddenly charged at Samini. "She screamed for help," said Salamun, who ran to help her and took his grandmother to the community health center.

Dozens of Kajoran locals and a hunter searched for the boar and found it not far from the forest. The villagers had no difficulty killing the animal, which weighed around 200 kilograms. - JP
