SURABAYA: The Cross Cultural Festival (CCF), featuring at least 22 art groups from across Indonesia and a number of foreign groups, opened Thursday at Galaxy Exhibition Center in Galaxy Mall, Surabaya.

Surabaya Mayor Bambang Dwi Hartono, foreign ambassadors and public figures attended the opening ceremony of the three-day festival starting with a Salsa dance performance by a group from Venezuela.

Bambang said he hoped the Cross Cultural Festival would prompt the participating countries to expand their relationship through wider cooperation with Indonesia.

So far, he said, some cities from the participating countries had engaged in cooperation with Surabaya.

By holding such a festival, he hoped existing cooperation would further develop.

The festival will be also held at the Atrium Tunjungan Plaza, G-Walk Citraraya and Taman Bungkul public park.

The participants, from Korea, Venezuela and Equador, will stage art performances, followed by collaborative dances. -JP
