JAKARTA: The Indonesian Heritage Trust (BPPI) is holding a series of events to celebrate its fifth anniversary this weekend, starting with Green Action near its office Jl. Veteran 1, Central Jakarta, on Friday, and a meeting with its partners and sponsors in the evening.

The highlights will be on Saturday, with a discussion led by BPPI chairman and former environmental minister Emil Salim and keynote address from Coordinating Minister for Welfare Aburizal Bakrie, followed by a street festival on Jl. Veteran in the afternoon.

In the evening, there will be a dinner with guest speaker Simon Molesworth from the International National Trusts Organization.

The celebration wraps up Sunday with a walk along the "Heritage Trail", which will start at Jl. Veteran, continuing to the National Monument (Monas), the Ministry of Finance buildings in Banteng Square, the Santa Ursula Catholic School, the Cathedral, the Istiqlal Grand Mosque-Pos Indonesia building and GKJ Jakarta Art Performances building, and ending at Pasar Baru market.

Set up in 2004, BPPI is a non-profit organization aimed at strengthening and assisting heritage conservation in Indonesia.

"A lot of invaluable natural and cultural heritage has been lost, damaged or endangered due to ignorance, incapacity and mismanagement," the group says on its website www.bppi-indonesianheritage.org. - JP
