A lawyer for the two Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputies accused of bribery says they are ready to counter the charges with more evidence.

"This data might change our perspective of the whole case," Bambang Widjojanto said Thursday, declining to elaborate.

"We can't reveal it at this point because we don't want to stir up a controversy. The point is, this data will reveal whether the case is a solid one or just a hollow sham."

Bambang said he would submit the data to the police Monday, when they are scheduled to question suspended KPK deputy chairman Chandra M. Hamzah.

Chandra and Bibit Samad Rianto are not under arrest, but must report to the police twice a week.

Police have also questioned two other KPK deputies, Haryono Umar and Muhammad Jasin, as witnesses.

KPK legal division director Chaidir Ramli said their testimonies were needed by police to complete the dossiers on Bibit and Chandra, who are alleged to have abused their power by imposing travel bans on graft suspect Anggoro Widjojo and convict Djoko S. Tjandra - both of whom remain at large - and lifting the ban on Djoko.

Both deputies are also accused of taking a bribe from Anggoro.

For his part, Bambang questioned why the National Police chief of detectives, Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji, had met with Anggoro after the KPK had issued a warrant for the fugitive.

The KPK issued the warrant on July 7, sending copies to Susno and all police chiefs across the country.

On July 10, Susno met with Anggoro in Singapore, to which Susno later confessed during a meeting with KPK leaders on July 15.

Bibit and his lawyer have confirmed the confession.

National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Nanan Soekarna said Wednesday if such a meeting did take place, it was probably just to get additional testimony from Anggoro.

"Besides, we can't just arrest people in another country. There are legal consequences for that," he said.

However, Bambang said it was still mind-boggling why Susno chose to meet with Anggoro in person.

"It should've been handled by police investigators, not him," he said.
