JAKARTA: The National Police will dispatch 140 personnel to Darfur, Sudan, on Friday in an effort to help stabilize security conditions and tighten bilateral ties between the two countries.

National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri said Thursday the contingent would replace the previous team consisting of 127 officers last year.

"The new team will operate for one year. We anticipate the security situation to improve. Hence this team will be the last one we send there," Bambang told kompas.com.

Ibrahim Busyra Muhammed Ali, Indonesia's ambassador to Sudan, said the recent security situation in the area had been improving. - JP
