Former supreme leader of the now-defunct Free Aceh Movement (GAM) Hasan Tiro called on the Aceh government and newly-elected legislators on Saturday to build a clean government in the province.
"The executive and legislative bodies must have a discipline in order to build a clean government," former GAM prime minister Malik Mahmud told reporters on behalf of Hasan.
Responding to Hasan’s statement, Aceh Governor Irwandy Arif said his administration would give rewards to those who have a lot of achievements and punishments to law violators.
"It is clear that committing corruption must be punished. It's not different from other provinces," he said.
Hasan, who resides in Sweden, began his Aceh visit on Saturday for an indefinite period.
