JAKARTA: The City Parks and Cemetery Agency announced Monday it would close 27 gas stations in Jakarta this year, to restore the city's green spaces.

"We must shut down the stations because they were built on nature strips on several median roads," agency head Ery Basworo said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

According to Ery, the agency will close 10 gas stations this month and the remaining 17 stations by the end of the year.

Among the 10 stations to be closed this month are those located on Jl. Hayam Wuruk and Jl. Kyai Tapa, West Jakarta, Jl. Suryo, South Jakarta and Jl. Abdul Muis, Central Jakarta.

Last week, the agency had asked state-owned oil company Pertamina to stop distributing fuel to the 27 stations. - JP
