Death toll from quake in Padang Pariaman climbs to 468

The Padang Pariaman regency administration in West Sumatra said Tuesday three people injured during the Sept. 30 earthquake had died, bringing the death toll to 468.

Spokesman for the local government Syafrion told Antara 540 people were receiving medical treatment at several hospitals across the regency, with about 250 others declared missing.

The magnitude 7.6 quake caused severe damage to more than 70,800 houses, moderate damage to more than 12,600 houses and slightly damaged more than 4,400 houses in 17 districts across the regency. No less than 310 school buildings, 104 office buildings and 13 traditional markets collapsed during the quake.

Syafrion added that the quake also affected three highways, seven major roads, 37 small roads and 23 bridges.
