Letter: Changi Airport responds

I refer to Tjong Lio Ie's letter "No medical doctor at Changi Airport?" (The Jakarta Post, Oct. 17) regarding the provision of medical services at Singapore Changi Airport.
To cater to the needs of travellers, there are five medical clinics located in the public and transit areas of Changi Airport's main terminals.
In addition, doctors are on-site at our airport 24 hours a day, regardless of clinic opening hours, to respond to medical emergencies and urgent requests.
In Tjong's case, a doctor could have been paged to examine his father at the departure hall and certify that he was fit to fly. We regret that this option was not offered to him by the airline's ground handling agent, and we will speak to the agent to ensure that a similar incident does not occur again.
Airlines decide their own policy with regard to *fit-to-fly' certification of their travelling passengers.
Changi Airport is committed to providing our guests with a pleasant experience at the airport. We are sorry that Tjong and his family did not have such an experience on this occasion.
We appreciate the feedback he has provided and will continue to work with our airport partners, including airlines and ground handling agents, to improve the airport experience of our guests.
