An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit North Sulawesi on Wednesday morning. No damages or injuries were immediately reported.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency reported that the quake hit at 08:07 a.m. Jakarta time. The quake's epicenter was located 155 kilometers southeast of Melonguane at 45 kilometers under the sea.
A series of three moderate earthquake had hit the area earlier this month.
Earlier this year, a 7.2-magnitude quake struck the city on the northern coast of Sulawesi Island, briefly triggering a tsunami warning, and causing residents to flee to higher ground.
Indonesia is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
