South Tangerang administration has promised to distribute donated
relief funds to hundreds of families victims of the Situ Gintung dam
burst, which swept away hundreds of houses, killing at least 100 people, within this month.
“The fund will be distributed by the end of October,” Ahadi, South Tangerang deputy mayor and deputy chairman of Situ Gintung Disaster Handling, said Thursday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Almost seven months since the disaster on March 27, there had been still no certainty about the distribution of the funds to reportedly 614 families forced to live in temporary shelters.
Ahadi denied that the sudden announcement was to wade off lawsuits planned by the victims against South Tangerang' acting mayor MH Shaled and his administration.
Shaled said earlier that donated relief funds amounted to Rp 6.7 billion ($710,000), but Ahadi said there were only Rp 4.9 billion in the administration bank account, failing to give further details on the matter.
