PALEMBANG: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is interested in helping manage waste in Palembang, South Sulawesi.
"They are keen to manage waste in Palembang, particularly household waste. They are even ready to send a team of experts to train *local officials* on waste management," Apriadi S. Busri, Palembang city administration assistant secretary, said Wednesday.
He said the JICA would provide waste management assistance only in two cities in Indonesia - Surabaya in East Java and Palembang.
Palembang sanitation office head Zulfikri Simin said the city badly needed to manage its waste professionally, adding that it produced up to 2,500 cubic meters of waste per day. -JP
