Residents of Kenagarian Tandikat village in the West Sumatra regency of Padang Pariaman have discovered the bodies of eight victims of the 7.6-magnitude earthquake that devastated the province on Sept. 30.
Patamuan district chief Nurdinah said Thursday the decomposed body of an unidentified woman was the latest found since the government declared the the search for missing people over on Oct. 13. The body was found in the Batang Mangoe River, 4 kilometers downstream of an area hit by a landslide.
Another body was discovered earlier this week.
Local residents also located six bodies huddled together last week. The bodies were exposed by heavy rain, which had eroded parts of the landslide. The bodies could not be identified due to their decomposed state.
About 250 people were buried under a landslide triggered by the quake in the coastal regency late last month.
Nurdinah called on residents to stay away from unstable areas affected by landslides.
