National carrier Garuda Indonesia is deploying 15 of its largest planes to fly more than 114,000 haj pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
Garuda spokesman Pujobroto said Friday nine Airbus A330-300s, four Boeing 747s, one Boeing 767-300ER and one Boeing B 777-200 would carry the pilgrims on 302 flights, leaving Indonesia from 10 airports between Oct. 23 and Nov. 21.
The airline will fly them back between Dec. 2, 2009, and Jan. 1, 2010.
Only planes made since 1990 are being used to transport the pilgrims for safety and comfort reasons.
Pujobroto said Garuda had assigned 770 cabin crew from various regions across the country who speak local dialects as many pilgrims do not speak Indonesian.

If these aircraft are used to carry pilgrims what happens to Garuda's scheduled service?
