Residents of the southern part of Sumatra Island are still suffering from rotating blackouts, with main coal-fired power generators under maintenance and the hydroelectric generators partially disabled due to low water levels.
Harris Effendi, spokesman from PLN's office in South Sumatra, Jambi and Bengkulu provinces, said Friday the three provinces were suffering from a 15-megawatt electricity deficit.
“Along with Riau [province] the total deficit is 30 megawatts,” he said.
Harris said two coal-fired power plants, PLTU Tarahan and PLTU Bukit Asam, were under maintenance and that the hydroelectric power generators, PTLA Musi, PLTA Koto Panjang and PLTA Singkarak, were yet to fully function with poor water flow despite the start of the wet season.
He said the company was doing its best to speed up the maintenance but said it could not do anything about the low rainfall.
