A magnitude 6 earthquake shook the West Papua capital of Manokwari at 6:15 p.m. Jakarta time on Friday.
The epicenter of the quake was located in the north coast of Manokwari about 13 kilometers southeast of the town at a depth of 23 kilometers beneath the sea floor.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency did not issue a tsunami warning.
Manokwari is among Indonesian regions most prone to earthquakes. A recent quake, measuring a magnitude of 6.1, jolted the town on Oct. 4, and caused panic but no fatalities were reported.
In January, two quakes measuring 7.2 and 7.6 hit Manokwari in a span of two hours, killing one person and damaging more than 4,600 houses.
