A strong earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale jolted Saumlaki Island in Maluku on Saturday evening.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) located the epicenter in Banda Sea about 209 kilometers northwest of Saumlaki at a depth of 165 kilometers beneath the ocean floor.
The agency issued a tsunami warning immediately after the quake struck at about 9:40 p.m. Jakarta time, but withdrew it about 35 minutes later.

“We have yet to receive any report from the field, particularly on whether the tsunami struck,” said Hendra Rachman of the BMKG.
