Abdulrachman Saleh Airport in Malang, East Java, is still closed for commercial flights after authorities found more damages found on its runway, in addition to damages they have found earlier.
Soefianto, head of Malang regency Transportation, Communication and Information Agency, told Antara news agency that a verification team have found 10 more damaged spots in the runwau, in addition to 133 spots found earlier.
Of the 133 spots, 22 of them requires immediate attention, prompting authorities to close the airport since last Oct. 14.
Three administrations, namely Malang regency, Malang city and Batu regency have chipped in money summing a total of Rp 130 million (US$13,780) for the repair.
Malang is a regular destination for domestic airlines including Batavia Air, Sriwijaya Air and the national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia. (dre)
