Tangerang regency administration will dismantle hundreds of base transceiver station (BTS) towers belonging to a number of cellular operators for violating the regional ordinances on building permits and public orders.

“As an initial step, we are summoning 12 cellular telecommunication operators today and if they give no response, we will then take stern measures,” Kadmita, head of the regency’s public order agency, said Tuesday.

The cellular operators are PT Bakrie Telkom, PT Natriondo Telepon Selular, PT Sampoerna Telekomunikasi Indonesia, PT Indosat TBK, PT Protelindo, PT Telekom Indonesia DFWN, PT Smart Telecom, PT Mobile 8 Telecom, PT Solusi Tunas Pratama, PT Hutchisun SP Telecom Catur (HCPT), PT Exelcomindo Pratama, TBK and PT Telekomunikasi Selular.

He said the summons were the second one, with the first one on Sept. 30 being ignored.

“If they still ignore the second summons, we will soon seal off the illegal BTS towers,” he said.

The agency data shows there are 700 BTS towers set up by the operators in Tangerang regency but that only 197 of them had the required permits.

As a final step, the agency will demolish the illegal towers within one month should the operators continue to ignore the second summons.
