The local Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency in Lampung is predicting extreme weather in the province, including incessant downpour, strong winds and lightning strikes towards the end of the year.

“Throughout September and October, we have recorded whirlwinds happening every week in a number areas,” said Bambang Nova Setyanto, head of the local agency office, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com on Tuesday.

The agency is warning residents in Tanggamus, Central Lampung, Tulangbawang, West Lampung, North Lampung and Bandar Lampung regencies to be cautious of extreme changes in weather, especially whirlwinds.

“Whirlwinds can be predicted by the cumulunimbus cloud formation, wind movement and temperature decrease which occurs two to three hours prior. Such wind usually occurs late in the afternoon in the areas,” he said.

The agency recorded that destructive whirlwinds had occurred ten times in September and the number doubled in October.
