Newly inaugurated Vice President Boediono will lead a ceremony to commemorate Youth Pledge Day in Serang, Banten, on Wednesday.

The event, scheduled to start at 10 a.m., would mark Boediono's first working visit in his vice presidency since he was inaugurated along with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono earlier this month.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Affairs Andi Mallarangeng will also attend the event.

The ceremony marks the anniversary of the historic pledge to build one independent nation by young people from various parts of the archipelago on Oct. 28, 1928, when Indonesia was still a Dutch colony.

The Youth Pledge – One Nation, One Language, One Country: Indonesia – was a major turning point in the country's independence struggle that culminated in the Declaration of Independence 17 years later.
