Police arrest Bibit, Chandra
in criminal cases

The suspended deputy chiefs of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Bibit Samad Rianto and Chandra M. Hamzah have been arrested by the National Police in cases of alleged power abuse and extortion linked to graft suspect Anggoro Widjojo.

The police deputy detective chief Insp. Gen. Dikdik Mulyana Arif Mansyur told news portal tempointeraktif.com that the police already had enough evidence to place both suspects in custody.

“They pose a flight risk, and may repeat their wrongdoings or tamper with evidence. Both suspects are facing a maximum of five years in jail,” he said on Thursday.

He denied that the arrests were aimed at criminalizing the antigraft body and that the cases against Bibit and Chandra were fabricated. (ewd)
