Flight GA 142 of flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, which was scheduled to fly to Banda Aceh on Friday morning, had to return to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport an hour after taking off.

The Boeing 737-300 plane took off from the airport at about 8:15 a.m. and landed back at Terminal II at about 9:43 a.m.

“After taking off, the plane suffered a malfunction of its left tire so the pilot decided to return to the airport,” Pudjobroto, an airline spokesman, said.

He explained that the plane circled the airport for more than an hour to empty fuel tanks for a safe landing.

After landing, the passengers were transferred to another Garuda plane leaving for Banda Aceh at 11 a.m.
