The Boeing 737-300 plane took off from the airport at about 8:15 a.m. and landed back at Terminal II at about 9:43 a.m.

"After taking off, the plane suffered a malfunction of its left tire so the pilot decided to return to the airport," Pudjobroto, an airline spokesman said.

He explained that the plane circled the airport for more than an hour to empty fuel for a safe landing.

After landing, the passengers were transferred to another Garuda plane leaving for Banda Aceh at 11 a.m.

An officer in charge at the terminal said the airport operator provided two fire truck to preempt possible accidents during the landing.

"Luckily, the plane landed safely and the passengers were quickly evacuated from the plane," the officer, who asked for anonymity, said. - JP
