This is my response to a letter written by Mia Sutanto (The Jakarta Post, Oct. 28, p. 8).
I*d like to clarify about my last article (the Post, Oct. 20), I really apologize for using the word "porn". It was a big mistake to use that word.
I didn't say that I disagree with breastfeeding, truly, but I was trying to share my thought that our society needs more information and knowledge about how to breastfeed in a proper healthy way.
Do you all agree that it is OK to open your clothes/shirt/to display your body in front of strangers? If yes, that's your choice, but in my opinion, there must be another wiser way for mothers (such as: wearing a proper shirt, not a baby T-shirt, or bringing a little towel to cover the breast), yes the baby needs love and care from mother, but the baby also need a healthy environment.
Please kindly advice me on this, once more, I'm so sorry for writing this title, I admit that I've chosen the wrong word to describe my thoughts. I wish that this topic could help improve our society, not a long debate without a solution. I really support breastfeeding campaigns and hope that every mother would do this for their babies.
