The Ministry of National Education is preparing an entrepreneurship-based curriculum, which is expected to be in place in the 2010-2011 school year.
Education Minister Muhammad Nuh said, after a ministerial meeting on people’s welfare Monday, that the completion of the planned curriculum would be part of his priority programs for his first 100 days in office.
“At the latest we will finish it in February, so that we can incorporate entrepreneurship in the next school curriculum,” Nuh told Antara news agency, adding that the curriculum would be introduced to students from elementary to high school.
Under the new curriculum, the government expects to instill entrepreneurship skills among students, which include curiosity, creativity, flexible thinking and innovation, the minister said.
“The first value that we want to promote is flexible thinking as that will inspire creativity. People are not creative if they cannot think in a flexible manner,” Nuh said.
Education observers have blamed the lack of entrepreneurship for the growing unemployment rate among university graduates.
