SURABAYA: The Sumenep Water Police in Madura recently arrested 16 fishermen for allegedly using explosives to catch fish.
Sumenep Water Police chief Adj. Comr. Aryanto Agus Subekti said the fishermen were caught as they were fishing on the eastern Gili Raja waters in Gresik regency.
"As we searched them we found three ready-to-use explosives on their boats," Aryanto said.
He added that apart from the explosives, the police had also seized other evidence from the fishermen including diving equipment, two motorized boats and 400 kilograms of fish. - JP
