JAKARTA: South Jakarta parks subagency has begun lopping branches off old trees on Jl. Buncit Raya in anticipation of them falling during the rainy season, an official on the weekend.
Subagency head Heru Bambang said the work would also be carried out at other locations in the municipality in coming weeks, including in Kebayoran Lama and Cilandak.
"We have been trimming old trees in Kebayoran Baru. Now, we are moving to Jl. Buncit Raya. After this, we plan to *trim trees* in other areas," Heru said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Of 242 trees on Jl. Buncit Raya, 70 trees were in dire need of trimming, he said.
Strong winds coupled with heavy downpours could topple old trees, thus endangering pedestrians and motorists, he said. -JP
