Transparency International secretary-general Teten Masduki has refused to be
part of a fact-finding team tasked with verifying facts and legal proceedings
on the case of two detained corruption watchdog KPK deputies.
"We really want Teten to join the team," team chairman and prominent
lawyer Adnan Buyung Nasution told reporters in a conference at the State Palace
on Monday.
"But according to the latest information, he refuses to do so but is
willing to lend a hand."
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono decided Monday to set up the team in
response to people's "mistrust".
The team will be working for two weeks, or more if required, according to
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto
Besides Adnan, the team will have former National Commission of Human Rights
member Kusparmono Irsan as deputy chairman and the President's special staffer
on legal affairs Denny Indrayana as secretary.
The team will have five members, namely prominent human rights lawyer Todung
Mulya Lubis, Paramadina University rector Anies Baswedan, Democratic Party (PD)
executive Amir Syamsuddin, Islamic State University rector Komarudin
Hidayat and University of Indonesia law professor Hikmahanto Juwana.
The meeting was a follow-up to the previous meeting late on Sunday, in which
Anies, Komarudin, Hikmahanto and Teten Masduki were summoned by the President.
The previous meeting gave the President three recommendations: case exposure,
set up a fact-finding team, or ask National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso
Danuri for transparency in taking legal proceedings against Chandra Hamzah and
Bibit Slamet Riyanto.
