South Sumatra Governor Alex Noordin said Tuesday civil servants under his administration would next year be required to speak English in their daily communication.
"If agency heads refuse to do so, they should resign from their posts as it means they don't support what we are trying to build," Alex said.
Alex added his instruction was part of efforts to develop human resources in the province.
He urged civil servants to start taking English courses before the implementation of the new requirement.
