Women wearing jeans and other trousers in West Aceh will now face sharia police, as will clothes vendors selling slacks for women. West Aceh Regent Ramli M.S. issued the controversial regulation. Those found wearing tight trousers will have them cut by sharia police.

What a sad fact!

Barring women from wearing trousers is OK. At least then, without a doubt, those wearing the skirts/gowns will be woman. Nowadays, a lot of men tend to wear skirts and blouses. Even some male TV celebrities prefer to dress like women.

And to be fair, I suggest man don't wear sarongs. In fact, I am amused to see most of the village people in the provinces in this country wear sarongs. As do most men in Bangladesh, Myanmar and some Malaysian Malays. What traits do they have in common, folks?

It's so irrational, the Taliban's way of thinking. I pity the women in West Aceh for this Dark Ages nonsense.

People should wear what they want to wear. What I hear of the sharia police scares me. Aceh has beautiful places but this will definitely hurt tourism (both locally and internationally).

I cannot believe there is the statement: "I'm surprised the mentality of the Aceh leader is so old-fashioned and primitive." Why would she be surprised? The whole concept of sharia is old-fashioned.

Outgoing foreign minister Hassan Wirajuda handed over the helms of Indonesian diplomacy to his successor, Marty Natalegawa, on Thursday, saying he felt both "relieved and happy".

Your comments:
The Foreign Ministry is lucky to have able diplomats now serving and leading Indonesian national interests. Hassan had done excellent job, making the international posture of Indonesia more confident. Now having pak Marty at the helm is also welcome in our diplomacy.

Farewell Minister Hassan Wirajuda and a big welcome to Marty, both of you are great men. Both of you are the guardians of Indonesia's sovereignty.
