The government expects the conflict between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and National Police to be solved soon to ensure a healthy investment climate, a minister says.

"We expect this to be solved immediately. The President has moved fast. We all want this problem to be resolved amicably," Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa said Monday.

Businesses have said the conflict may cause legal uncertainties, discouraging investors who want to expand businesses here.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono set up a fact-finding team Monday to review the case implicating two leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) amid mounting public anger across the country.

Team chairman Adnan Buyung Nasution said the team was established in response to growing “mistrust” among the people toward the arrest of Chandra Hamzah and Bibit Samad Rianto, who were detained last week by police.

Bibit and Chandra were declared suspects on Sept. 15 and detained on Oct. 29 on alleged power abuse and bribery charges.

Public speculation that the two KPK officials were being criminalized was recently backed up by a widely published transcript of voice recordings of plans allegedly formulated by the police and the Attorney General’s Office to fabricate evidence framing the pair.

The detention of the KPK leaders has sparked an outcry, as thousands of people in major cities across the country took to the streets on Monday, while more than 557,000 people signed up to a Facebook group in support of Chandra and Bibit as of Tuesday afternoon.
