Chandra M Hamzah, one of the detained deputy chairmen of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), has been warned that he would be killed should he be sent to prison, according to a recording played at the Constitutional Court.
“As we heard during the playing of the recording [at the Constitutional Court], Chandra will be killed if he is sent to prison,” Bambang Widjojanto, one of the KPK’s lawyers, said.
“We’re calling for his release from jail, or at the very least, a guarantee for his safety.”
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s special staff Denny Indrayana said the president had instructed National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri to ensure the safety of Chandra and Bibit Samad Rianto.
