AKARTA: In a bid to revive its past glory, the Golkar Party seeks to groom 10 million members over the next five years to lead the party's progress, Antara state news agency has reported.
Golkar's chief advisor Akbar Tandjung said the party members selected for the regeneration program should have grassroots support.
"They are the party's avant-garde who will lead the party's struggle in the community. With more competitors arising, Golkar needs members who are committed to restoring its pride," Akbar said at the opening of a conference held by the party's Riau chapter in Pekanbaru on Tuesday.
