JAKARTA: An association of experts and practitioners in air-conditioning engineering announced Tuesday it would run an international air-conditioning technology exhibition in Jakarta this month.

Rana Yusuf Nasir, the president of the Indonesian branch of the American Society for Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), said Tuesday that around 100 local and international companies had agreed to participate in the exhibition, to be held at the Jakarta International Trade Expo from Nov. 19 to 21.

During the three-day exhibition, the association will run two conferences, discussing energy efficiency in air-conditioning technology and the future of the industry following the global restriction of HCFC usage.

HCFC, or hydro chlorofluo-rocarbon, is a substance used as refrigerant and propellant in aerosol cans. It used to be considered less environmentally dama-ging than CFC's (chlorofluoro carbons).

"We hope the conference will encourage people to use eco-friendly technology," he told The Jakarta Post. - JP
